Context

In an increasingly digital world, access to reading and the promotion of culture must adapt to new technologies. The National Commission of Popular Libraries (Conabip) recognized the need to create a digital space where communities could gather to share their love for reading. The Juana Manso Reading Community platform was born in response to this challenge, aiming to integrate educational resources, digital libraries, and virtual book clubs into a single accessible and user-friendly platform.

The main challenge was to design an intuitive and user-friendly platform capable of attracting a diverse audience, including children, young people, and adults, with varying levels of familiarity with technology. Additionally, it was crucial to integrate multiple functionalities into one site while maintaining a smooth and coherent user experience.

Design Process: beginnings

The first stage of the project involved generating the foundational idea for the Juana Manso Reading Community platform, focusing on creating a content tree and a clear, organized structure. This initial step was crucial to ensure that all information was well-categorized and accessible to users of all ages and levels of familiarity with technology.

We worked closely with the Conabip team to identify the main sections that should be included in the platform, as well as the categories and subcategories that would facilitate navigation and access to resources. This detailed planning process allowed us to establish a content hierarchy that would guide the development and design of the platform.

Wireframe Creation

After establishing the foundational idea and content structure, we moved on to the wireframe creation phase. This process allowed us to visualize and plan the layout of elements on each page of the platform, ensuring intuitive navigation and an optimal user experience.

The initial wireframes focused on defining the positions of modules, categories, and subcategories, as well as outlining the key interactions users would have with the platform.

User Interface (UI) Design

The user interface (UI) design for the Juana Manso Reading Community platform was developed with a user-centered approach, ensuring that every visual and functional element contributed to an intuitive and pleasant user experience.

Images and graphics were integrated to complement the textual content, making the experience more engaging and dynamic. Interactive banners and buttons were designed to guide the user through their journey on the platform, enhancing usability and engagement.

Implementation

The Juana Manso Reading Community site was developed using WordPress, leveraging its flexibility and robustness. Elementor Pro, a visual builder, was used for the design, allowing the creation of attractive and functional pages. The process included configuring WordPress, creating custom templates with Elementor Pro, and integrating plugins to manage the digital library, forums, and events. Once completed, tutorial videos were created to enable the team to independently modify and upload new content.
